Washington held off a late run by the Atlanta Dream on Friday night to secure a 79-74 win to match the franchise record of six straight wins set in 2019. Shakira Austin finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds to go with five of the Mystics’ team record 12 blocked shots. Kiki Iriafen added 15 points and five assists and Sonia Citron scored 14 points.
Kelsey Plum‘s potential game-tying 3-point attempt was blocked at the buzzer as the Mercury took a 75-72 road loss to the Connecticut Sun on Friday night. Plum paced Phoenix with 25 points while Kahleah Copper scored 16 and Alyssa Thomas posted 10 points and five assists. DeWanna Bonner grabbed 11 rebounds as the Mercury shot just 5-of-28 from 3-point range and made only 13 of their 23 free-throw attempts.
Citron averages 17.0 points for the Mystics, with Austin getting 16.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Copper leads Phoenix with an average of 20.8 points, with Thomas posting 14.9 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game. Plum has put up 21.3 points a night in her first three games with the team.
