Joey Logano won a thrilling race under the lights at Richmond Raceway. The Cook Out 400 was the Team Penske driver’s 2nd win of the 2026 season, following his victory at North Wilkesboro earlier this summer.

The race became contentious late, with Chase Briscoe making late attempts to pass Logano. Briscoe unfortunately could not get the job done despite leading the most laps of any driver (171). The winning delta was 0.392 from first to second place.

As the day was great for some drivers, it went very badly for others. The biggest loser of the day was Carson Hocevar. The No. 77 car finished in dead-last place due to a lap 284 incident in which he stalled in Turn 3, bringing out the yellow caution flag.

No big playoff contender had a bad day otherwise. The worst finish among drivers in the top 16 of the driver standings, besides Hocevar, was Chris Buescher in 21st place.
The top of the pylon board was dominated by elite NASCAR racers. Denny Hamlin finished 4th at his home track. Chase Elliott followed in 5th place, with Kyle Larson in 6th and Christopher Bell in 7th.
Despite a 32nd-place starting position, Tyler Reddick also managed a solid day, finishing in 11th place and recording a 9th-place finish in Stage Two.

Hamlin maintains his lead in the driver standings by a large margin of 115 points. Ryan Blaney is the 2nd-place chaser, but it seems almost definite that the playoffs will begin in three weeks with Hamlin the points leader.
Next week the Cup Series heads to another short track at New Hampshire. Given the recent surge of Team Penske, fans can expect both Logano and Blaney to enter the weekend as race favorites.
