Ted Cruz has now weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding transgender athletes competing in the WNBA.
The debate heated up last month when Sophie Cunningham’s comments about protecting young girls against biological males began to garner traction.

Since then, Enes Kanter, a former NBA player, has said he wants to compete in the WNBA and declared for the 2027 draft.
Now, Cruz has hit out at the league and suggested that if Kanter were to play, he would shatter Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most points in a single game.

Ted Cruz suggests Enes Kanter would break Wilt Chamberlain record in WNBA
Speaking to Benny Johnson, he said: “The WNBA are utter and complete hypocrites. They’re leftists who don’t know what to do with themselves.
“I am very, very glad you have people like Enes Freedom Kanter who’s saying ‘alright’ if you can’t tell what a woman is, I’m a woman, let me play’.

“And to be clear, if Enes plays, and he’s a 6ft 10, was an NBA starting centre for the Boston Celtics, if he played in the WNBA, he would shatter Wilt Chamberlain’s record. Wilt has the record for 100 points in an NBA game. Enes, he would just stand there with the ball above his head and the women would jump up around him and no one could touch him, and then he’d flip it in. It’d be like playing Nerf basketball with your five-year-old.”
It remains to be seen exactly what will happen between the former NBA star and the WNBA ahead of next year’s draft.
Recently, Kanter suggested he would walk away if the WNBA can define what a woman is.
He also offered the WNBA a peace summit that would be, in his words, ‘moderated by one of the best female athletes ever, Caitlyn Jenner’.
