Micah Huff’s overreaction of the week involving new Trojan commit

Lincoln Riley has had an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback position in his years as a coach. The list of star quarterbacks includes Jalen Hurts, Caleb Williams, Kyler Murray, and Baker Mayfield, to name a few. Riley has a promising freshman, Jonas Williams, who also could be special. Many are excited about the USC Trojans‘ starting quarterback, Jayden Maiava, this upcoming season. Maiava is in a great position to have an even better season than his first as the signal caller for USC. What if I were to tell you it will get even better than this?

Lincoln Riley has another quarterback to look forward to in the newly committed 2028 quarterback, Trey Wright. Trey Wright’s game is very similar to Kyler Murray’s. Lincoln Riley has already had a couple of quarterbacks go on to win the Heisman under his watch. My overreaction take for this week is that Trey Wright will be the next quarterback to accomplish that.

In 2025, that dual-threat quarterback went 15-1 on the season, and his stat line was one only fitting of a potential future Heisman Trophy winner. Wright threw for 4,042 yards and 38 touchdowns. He was just as lethal with his legs as he ran for 1,764 yards and 16 TDs on 10.8 yards per carry.

Wright could not have chosen a better landing spot than USC. With Riley’s brilliant offensive mind and Wright’s superstar talent, there could be a new top dog in the Big Ten in 2028.

Ultimately, I believe Riley will add another Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback to his resume, in the highly sought-after quarterback Wright. He will be perfect for USC and be exactly what this program needs to continue to match the talent that the juggernaut teams in the Big Ten have.
