One of the more unique podcasts in the sports space is headed to a new home, as the hosts of The Sports Gossip Show announced this week that they are leaving The Athletic.
The show is hosted by Charlotte Wilder, a former host and writer at SI, Fox Sports and Meadowlark Media, and entertainment industry veteran Madeline Hill, and covers the intersection of sports, entertainment and celebrity culture. The New York Times-owned Athletic licensed the show last year, shortly into its run, as part of the company’s growing foray into digital video.
In an episode published Thursday, Wilder and Hill announced their departure and teased an upcoming announcement about their next destination.
The pair gave a statement to media reporter Emily Sundberg in her Feed Me newsletter:
“We’ll share soon what we’ve got up our sleeve for our next move, we’re really excited about it,” they said in part.
“As two women in the male-dominated world of sports, we know that it’s crucial to keep growing our show, one where anyone can listen or watch and learn how off-the-field stories in sports impact our culture more than ever.”
As media reporter Max Tani of Semafor later noted on X, the departure of The Sports Gossip Show from The Athletic’s podcast network is part of a broader exodus of podcast stars from The New York Times (which owns The Athletic). The Athletic also licenses Pablo Torre Finds Out, which netted the outlet a Pulitzer Prize earlier this year, as well as The Tennis Podcast.
The Sports Gossip Show hosts were named to Awful Announcing’s Sports Podcast Power List in 2025 and Rising Stars list earlier this year. The show has been a go-to for coverage around Jordon Hudson’s, Aaron Rodgers’, and Tom Brady’s status as public figures, the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift relationship, and the Dianna Russini scandal.
More outlets are embracing sports culture coverage, and content for women and by women is becoming more prevalent in sports media. The Sports Gossip Show should have no shortage of suitors.
