Analyst Goes Off On WNBA’s Casual Observers
It seems like there’s almost always a controversy involving Caitlin Clark. Love or hate the Indiana Fever superstar, she’s good, popular, and people can’t stop talking about her.
The latest discussion comes from Ros Gold-Onwude and Angel McCoughtry on Wednesday’s episode of their “Court Vision” podcast. Gold-Onwude seemingly couldn’t believe how much Clark has had to endure and made sure to give the three-time All-Star her due.
More importantly, Gold-Onwude said she dislikes that Clark can’t even have a standout performance without the broader conversation shifting to something else instead of focusing on her brilliance.

“I just want to start this off with complete flowers for Caitlin Clark, and I hope that Caitlin can experience more joy through basketball. She goes through a lot,” Gold-Onwude said.
“To be a fan of the WNBA, can we just enjoy Clark’s big game without it being hijacked by agenda-pushers? She can’t do anything without outsiders using her stuff as propaganda. Down my timeline is one after another after another of talking heads with this super hyperbolic discussion of best players, GOATs, face of the league, this and that, and I said, ‘Was there a meeting? Do we have a CC bat signal to put in the sky and they emerge from their cave?’”
Then, Gold-Onwude proceeded to read a tweet from sports personality Skip Bayless.

“I was traveling back from vacation and couldn’t watch, but the numbers Caitlin Clark put up last night NO OTHER WNBA PLAYER IS CAPABLE OF,” Gold-Onwude quoted Bayless.
That’s when McCoughtry cut her off, saying, “Skip, it’s evident that you don’t watch the WNBA,” before noting Marina Mabrey’s historic 53-point game last month.
Then, it was Robert Griffin III’s turn to catch some heat for a ridiculously long tweet.
“Robert Griffin III, it was literally a soliloquy,” Gold-Onwude said. “It was like a multiple-page manifesto about Caitlin Clark. Basically, said a long reasoning why Caitlin Clark is the face of the league.”

McCoughtry replied, “RG, I couldn’t read this whole thing. It’s like 20 pages. I want you to support all the players the same. When A’ja (Wilson) scores her next 40-point game, I want to see a 10-page paper, too.”
Gold-Onwude closed by essentially pleading for more normalcy and less overreacting. However, she believes this mindset stems from “outsiders” who don’t pay close enough attention to the daily happenings around the WNBA.
“When the response is so outlandish, it distracts from the moment that Caitlin earned just by being nice at ball,” Gold-Onwude concluded.
In other words, let the moment speak for itself. Next time, no soliloquy needed, “RG3.”
