The Dream improved to 8-3, while the Sky fell to 4-8.
It was Reese’s first return to Chicago since being traded to Atlanta in April. The game was emotionally charged, but the hard-nosed forward did not let it affect her. She finished with 17 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, and two steals to power the Dream to victory.
The 24-year-old Reese forced her way out of the Sky after she slammed the front office, citing a lack of vision and urgency to win. The Sky received two first-round picks from the Dream in exchange for the former LSU standout.
After the Dream’s win, Reese expressed her gratitude to Chicago, as shown in the video posted by Pop Base.

“It’s just another basketball game. I have a lot of love for Chicago because I did have a great time here. The fans have still embraced me, so many people still have Chicago jerseys of mine and they show a lot of support. So I do appreciate the city too,” said Reese.
“I had two great years here, I did a lot of great things here, and I’m still appreciative of it.”
Reese led the WNBA in rebounds in her two seasons with the Sky, became a two-time All-Star, and set multiple records. They, however, failed to qualify for the playoffs.
She was excited to play in the Windy City after the team drafted her with the No. 7 pick in 2024. But after back-to-back years of having a losing record, Reese, who is highly competitive, felt disenchanted.

Now, both sides are trying to move forward, and regardless of how their relationship ended, Reese will always have respect for the city that took a chance on her.
