The Arizona Wildcats have officially started their prep for the 2026 season, kicking off fall camp on Wednesday. Early that evening, Arizona’s future defense picked up another member from the Recruiting Trail.
Jacob Whitehead, a 3-star Southern California cornerback, announced his decision to play football in Tucson.
Whitehead is the fifth member of Orange County’s Crean Lutheran High School football team to announce his commitment to Arizona. Receiver Ty Johnson, QB Caden Jones, WR/TE Braylen Ross and corner Evan Mack are all members of CL who have previously committed to Arizona over the summer. Whitehead is a large-bodied corner, measuring at 6-foot-3 and around 170 pounds. He previously played at Inglewood High School for his freshman and sophomore years, while playing his junior campaign at SoCal powerhouse St. John Bosco.

Whitehead transferred to Crean Lutherna to finish up his high school career. In January, Whitehead played in the Navy All-American Bowl after receiving an invite and All-Combine honors in the 2024 All-American Combine.
Whitehead chose Arizona over 23 other offers. The ‘Cats beat out schools such as Alabama, Arizona State, BYU, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Utah and Washington.
On the recruiting side, Whitehead comes in as a high 3-star in both of 247Sports’ ranking systems. Internally, the site has him as the No. 54 corner and the 50th best player in California. In the Composite, Whitehead comes in as the No. 702 player nationally, the No. 71 cornerback and the No. 55 player in California.
During his freshman year on Inglewood’s varsity team, Whitehead racked up 48 tackles, an interception and 17 PBUs in 9 games. I couldn’t find any stats for his sophomore season. Based on MaxPreps, as a junior at Bosco, he only had 4 tackles and a forced fumble in 5 games.
