The next domino has fallen in the saga of the current phenomenon of former rostered NFL players joining college football programs. A few hours after rumors swirled that the Big Ten would take a stand against his new trend, the conference released an official statement that they have unanimously adopted a new rule to prohibit any football player who had signed a professional contract, were on a professional roster at any point, or who declared for the NFL Draft as an underclassmen without withdrawing from gaining eligibility to play Big Ten football moving forward.
The decision by the Big Ten occurred after two players, Dae’Quan Wright from the Cleveland Browns and Zxavian Harris of the New Orleans Saints, decided to leave their NFL rosters to join Lane Kiffin’s LSU program. It’s rumored that other conferences like the ACC are reviewing enacting similar rules moving forward.
