Bubba Wallace wrecks during NASCAR qualifying at Sonoma in 2026

by

Bubba Wallace will be starting in the rear for the NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. On Saturday, Wallace crashed at the beginning of Group B’s qualifying sessions for the Cup Series event at Sonoma. The No. 23 car got off the track into the dirt and slammed into the wall near the pit road entrance.

This came after Wallace had posted a qualifying time, but the 23XI Racing crew members didn’t get the benefit. Instead, 23XI Racing decided to fix Wallace’s No. 23 car instead of putting him in a backup entry. After all, Wallace showed great speed in practice before his wreck in qualifying.

In San Diego, Wallace went two laps down after losing a tire on the race track and fought back for a second-place finish. The driver of the No. 23 car is used to big challenges on road courses, and he hopes that Sonoma is no different. Wallace needs the points, and Sunday could be a massive swing event now.
