The Indiana Fever‘s rookie guard has impressed Clark with her tenacity and competitive fire in the early stages of the 2026 WNBA season, as Indiana is one of only two teams with a top-four offense and a top-four defense so far.

The Fever are 4-2 after a three-game winning streak which has coincided with Johnson earning more minutes in Indiana’s rotation. The former SEC Defensive Player of the Year has played 54 minutes across the past three games, and she scored seven points with two rebounds and two assists in Friday’s 90-82 win over the Golden State Valkyries — the only other WNBA team with both a top-four offense and a top-four defense by efficiency.
“Whatever the coaches ask her she’s going to do, and (she) has been doing it really well,” Clark told reporters on Tuesday.
Johnson’s shot is also starting to come around as a complement to her elite defensive ability. She made three of her five shots against the Valkyries and was a plus-5 across her 15 minutes in an eight-point win.

“She gave us really big minutes in the fourth against the Valkyries, so we’ll continue to need more of that,” Clark said.
It hasn’t taken long for Johnson to win over the Fever’s locker room. The question now is, “what can she do next?”
