The Los Angeles Sparks return home from a 2-1 road trip for a showdown against the team with the best record in the WNBA in the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx come in at 11-3, having climbed to the top of the early standings without star forward Napheesa Collier who is still rehabbing from an injury. But the Sparks will be without a major piece of their own as Cameron Brink has been ruled out due to an ankle injury.

Cameron Brink might not be the only player the Sparks are missing as star guard Kelsey Plum was listed on the team’s report as questionable due to a lower leg injury. Plum missed three games earlier this season due to an ankle sprain she suffered in practice in late May.

In Brink’s case, she sustained said ankle injury in the second half of the Sparks’ loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Monday. She was helped to the team’s bench before leaving to the locker room and not returning. Immediately following the game, Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts did not have an update regarding her star defensive player, only that she was in the process of being evaluated by team staff.

If the former No. 2 overall pick is unable to play, the Sparks will likely turn to second-year center Sania Feagin for backup minutes. Feagin was sidelined to start the season due to a foot injury, but she has since returned to the lineup. The former South Carolina standout has logged only two games so far this year.

Brink is currently top-five in the WNBA in blocked shots at 1.5 per game. She’s also averaging 9.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 53.8 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from the 3-point line and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line in a little over 17 minutes.

After a stellar career at Stanford that included a national championship, Brink began her WNBA career with the Sparks. She suffered a season-ending ACL injury just about one month into her rookie year, and last season she did not return until after the All-Star break.

Roberts has often spoken about 2026 kind of being like Brink’s second full year in the WNBA with her rookie season and second year combined being one full season.

A firm update on the defensive ace’s status moving forward likely will come during Sparks’ shootaround on Wednesday morning.
