Dana White’s Contender Series 88 turned out to be a fantastic event for second-time participants.
Trent Miller joined Cristian Perez and Alik Lorenz as the contingency of fighters who capitalized on getting another chance, when he submitted Douglas Rodrigues by second-round Von Flue choke submission at 1:04 of Round 2 at Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Miller (10-3) overcame an early blitz from the big Brazilian middleweight Rodrigues (6-2) and resorted to the takedown late in Round 1. He picked up where he left off in Round 2 as he quickly dragged Rodrigues to the canvas and drove his shoulder into the throat. Rodrigues did not tap, but went unconscious, and the fight was stopped.
Miller, 30, was the biggest underdog on the card. He competed on DWCS in 2025 and was knocked out in the first round by eventual UFC signee Ryan Gandra. He then returned to the regional scene and knocked out Tyler Smith in under two rounds.
Rodrigues, 27, has a five-fight winning streak snapped as he’s finished for the first time as a professional.
