ESPN’s Dick Vitale gives encouraging health update in cancer battle

by

Dick Vitale has defeated cancer four previous times, and appears to be on his way to possibly knocking it out for the fifth time.

The longtime ESPN broadcaster shared a positive health update Wednesday, posting on social media that his most recent bloodwork results were very good, and that he is hopeful that immunotherapy treatments will continue to be effective in warding off the cancer once more.

The 87-year-old did a few college basketball games on ESPN last season and worked his first-ever NCAA tournament game this past March.

Vitale has been calling college basketball games on ESPN since the network’s inception in 1979. His first game at the mic was a contest between Wisconsin and DePaul on December 5, 1979.
