Former Duke forward Mark Mitchell took the college basketball world by storm, committing to transfer from Missouri to Kentucky over the weekend. Following his commitment, the SEC released a statement, saying, “Individuals who choose to leave college athletics, sign professional playing contracts, and compete professionally should not then be permitted to return to college competition.”
Considering this news, many believed that Mitchell would be ineligible to play for the Kentucky Wildcats, having suited up for the Denver Nuggets in the 2026 NBA Summer League. However, it was revealed that Mitchell never signed an Exhibit-10 deal with Denver and just competed with the Nuggets after reaching a “verbal agreement” with the team.

For this reason, it appears that Mitchell will be able to play for the Wildcats next year, becoming the first men’s college basketball player to suit up for both Duke and Kentucky. Last season with Missouri, Mitchell averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks.
