Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats just got a major boost by landing former Iowa State star Milan Momcilovic. While many Wildcats fans are celebrating the addition of the elite forward, some remain divided on just how good Kentucky’s roster really is heading into the 2026-27 season.
The debate exploded on social media after recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw shared Kentucky’s projected lineup and asked fans whether it constitutes a top 15 roster.

Not everyone was convinced that the roster makes them a national contender.
“Maybe it’s better than last year’s hodgepodge group, but for a blue blood, this UK roster stinks,” one fan wrote.
“I would say they will be somewhere in the top 25 preseason, not top 15. The expectations have really changed for UK over the last couple years,” another wrote.
Somewhere between 11-19, at least now have the potential to be a 2nd weekend team, another fan added.
“Most money spent should be top 5, but it’s just not,” another user wrote.
“Good enough to keep Pope his job,” another took a jab.
Why Kentucky’s Roster Seems Promising
Milan Momcilovic is one of the best players available in the portal. The former Iowa State star averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last season and was planning to enter the 2026 NBA Draft.

However, he withdrew from the draft on May 27 and chose Kentucky shortly thereafter.
He joins a lineup that includes point guard Zoom Diallo, combo guard Alex Wilkins, center Franck Kepnang, Justin McBride, and Jerone Morton.
These additions have reshaped Kentucky’s roster after a disappointing season that ended with an early NCAA Tournament exit.
Despite skepticism from some users, there is plenty of reason for Kentucky fans to be excited about the upcoming season.
The overall roster now features a stronger blend of shooting, versatility, and depth than the previous team.
Whether the team ranks in the top 15 is debatable.

For now, one thing is clear: Pope has significantly upgraded his roster through the transfer portal, and the team looks in pretty good shape to make a deep run in March Madness.
