The ill-fated Emmanuel Latte Lath era in Atlanta looks to be coming to an end.
The one-time MLS record signing has struggled in a season and a half with Atlanta United, and was held out of the team’s 2-2 draw at Charlotte FC on Wednesday, July 22.

Speaking to 92.9 FM before the game, technical director Chris Henderson admitted the 27-year-old may be on his way out.
“We’re having a few conversations around him, and so out of precaution we’ve kept him out of this game,” Henderson said. “That’s about the extent of what I’m going to say about it at the moment.”
Big things were expected of Latte Lath when he joined Atlanta from Middlesbrough in February 2025. Atlanta paid a reported $22 million fee for the striker, a league record at the time. It is still MLS’s second-highest incoming transfer, with Son Heung-min‘s move to LAFC the only more expensive transaction.

The Ivorian started out hot with Atlanta but the goals have dried up since. Latte Lath has just nine goals and three assists in 44 MLS appearances.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Atlanta United is looking into signing two forwards who played at the 2026 World Cup: Uruguay‘s Darwin Núñez and Switzerland‘s Breel Embolo.
Should Latte Lath exit, Atlanta would have an open Designated Player spot to potentially use on one of those players.
Burnley, which was relegated from the Premier League last season, has reportedly submitted a bid for Latte Lath.
