Fox Valley Swim Team’s Sofia Piater Chooses Wisconsin For 2027
NEW COMMIT: The University of Wisconsin has received a new verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from Sofia Piater of Naperville, Ill. Piater is a Junior National qualifier who excels in backstroke and freestyle.
She will join Kenzie Hinrich as a member of the Badgers’ Class of 2031.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison! I want to thank my parents, siblings, Coach Michael, and friends for their endless support through this journey. Also, I would like to give a huge shoutout to all the amazing staff at Wisconsin for this amazing opportunity! Go Badgers!”
Piater, who does her club swimming with Fox Valley Swim Team, most recently competed at Madison Futures where she finaled in the 100m and 200m back. She raced three events at Juniors West back in December before going on to earn six top-8 finishes wat West Fargo Speedo Sectionals in March.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 22.98
- 100 free – 50.82
- 200 free – 1:51.92
- 100 back – 55.91
- 200 back – 2:00.79
Piater is a rising senior at Neuqua Valley High School. She placed fourth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 back at the 2025 Illinois State Championships after placing 15th in the 50 free at the state meet during her sophomore season.
Wisconsin finished fourth at the 2026 Big Ten Championships.
Piater has a twin sister, Carolina Piater, who is also a swimmer but remains uncommitted.
