Indiana men’s basketball lands commitment from German center Clemens Sokolov

by

Indiana men’s basketball made quick work of the transfer portal when it opened last month, landing six commitments within eight days of the portal opening.

The Hoosiers’ starting lineup, and obviously some depth, will likely come from that first wave of six players. Indiana had remaining depth needs to address, as Darian DeVries mentioned during his offseason media availability last week, and made its move not long after.

Clemens Sokolov, a center out of Germany, committed to Indiana last week and will be a freshman this upcoming season, according to reporting from Jonathon Givony. Sokolov is listed as 6’11” by both Givony and the official Eurobasket website. He most recently played for FIT/One Wuerzburg Baskets, averaging 6.4 points in 22.6 minutes per game.

It’s worth looking at Sokolov’s commitment as a potential long-term play while giving Indiana another big body to work with on the practice floor and potentially earn spot minutes in relief of Samet Yigitoglu.

Sokolov’s commitment brings Indiana’s scholarship roster up to 11 players. The Hoosiers carried 13 scholarship players in DeVries’ first season last year, so don’t be surprised if further additions are made in the weeks to come.
