The New York Liberty have just solidified their Big Three amid the WNBA’s free agency frenzy, signing star center Jonquel Jones to a multi-year contract alongside Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. Now, fans can rest even easier knowing that Jones confirmed there was never a chance she was going to leave.

According to New York Post reporter Madeline Kenney, when asked whether she considered parting ways with the Liberty this offseason, Jones responded, “There was never a point [when I considered leaving]. There was never a point.”
The 32-year-old has been with the Liberty since 2023 and was an integral part of their championship run in 2024. Jones started her career with the Connecticut Sun in 2016 and has since become a six-time All-Star, Most Improved Player in 2017, Sixth Woman of the Year in 2018, and league MVP in 2021.
Following a disappointing end to the 2025 season that saw the Liberty bow out in the first round of the WNBA playoffs against the Phoenix Mercury, New York has been revamping its personnel on and off the court in an attempt to reclaim its dominant position in the league. The franchise moved away from title-winning head coach Sandy Brondello and hired former Golden State Warriors assistant coach Christ DeMarco as her replacement.

On top of solidifying the core, the Liberty also made a bombshell free agency addition by signing former Mercury star Satou Sabally. New York’s moves explain why Jones’ decision to stay was a no-brainer, and the team will seemingly be a force to be reckoned with once the 2026 WNBA season gets underway.
