The Mercury trailed by three points, 55-52, at the start of the fourth quarter. They clawed back courtesy of their rigid defense. DeWanna Bonner scored seven straight points to keep the Storm at bay before Copper sealed the victory with four free throws in the final 20 seconds.
Mack had 16 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks, while Copper, who made an assurance to fans, added 16 points and six rebounds.
Bonner added 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists off the bench. She also surpassed Tina Thompson for fifth place on the all-time list for field goals made, according to Mercury reporter Shane Young.
The 38-year-old Bonner, who is playing in her 17th season, has scored 2,633 field goals and counting.

Thompson is one of the WNBA’s greatest players, winning four championships with the Houston Comets. She was a nine-time All-Star and an eight-time All-WNBA Team member.
Bonner started her colorful career in Phoenix after being drafted as the No. 5 pick in 2009. She played for the Mercury until 2019, when she was traded to the Connecticut Sun. After four years, she signed with the Indiana Fever.
The six-time All-Star, however, was not pleased with her diminished role on the Fever and demanded to be released. She was waived after nine games and returned to the Mercury, whom she helped win the title in 2009 and 2014. She helped Phoenix reach the WNBA Finals.
With the win over the Storm, the Mercury improved to 3-8.
