I guess we can count this one as a positive Jonah Tong start? The right-hander tossed four innings against the Jumbo Shrimp, allowing a run- a Bennett Hostetler solo homer- on four hits and four walks, striking out six. The run ultimately didn’t matter much, as the offense was clicking on most cylinders. Syracuse scored a run in the second, fourth, two in the fifth, and one apiece in the sixth and seventh. Brian Metoyer allowed a pair of Matt Turner inherited runners to score, but with a sizable 6-1 lead, those two runs thankfully did not alter the course of the game.

They’re at it again! A few days ago, the Rumble Ponies set a franchise record by scoring 23 runs, and last night, they had another game where they scored double-digit runs, their third game doing so since August 1st. Powered by 15 hits and 6 walks, Binghamton crushed the Sea Dogs 16-4 for their eighth win in a row. Mitch Voit was not in the lineup but that did not stop the team from hitting a collective .357. Marco Vargas, Jefferson Rojas, Jacob Reimer, Billy Amick, and Kevin Parada all had multi-hit games, with the first two infielders both logging three hits each. On the mound, R.J. Gordon turned in his third strong start, scattering five hits and allowing one earned run over seven innings, the second time during this three-game span where he’s pitched seven frames.

It’s always nice to see the Cyclones beat up on Jersey Shore and it’s always nice to see the Cyclones throw shutouts; The Cyclones beating Jersey Shore by shutting them out? Fuhgeddaboudit. Nicolas Carreno threw six scoreless innings, giving him 11.2 in the month of June so far, and the trio of Calvin Ziegler, Gregori Louis, and Parker Carlson finished things up with three perfect innings in the seventh, eighth, and ninth. All four Brooklyn runs came in the third on a Ronald Hernandez grand slam- I guess if you’re gonna score just once, make it count.

Elian Peña homered not just once, but twice- exactly what we want to see from the 18-year-old as the 2026 season begins winding down now- but Conner Ware ultimately wasn’t able to hold on to the lead that Peña gave him. After the rehabbing Will Watson and Candido Cuevas combined to throw three scoreless innings, Ware was called in from the bullpen. The southpaw allowed a run in the bottom of the fifth, no harm, no foul since Peña hit the second of his two homers in the top of that inning. The left-hander settled down and put up a pair of goose eggs, but unfortunately, allowed a two-run homer to left-fielder Yoffry Solano in the bottom of the eighth. Suddenly trailing after leading from literally the first at-bat of the game- Peña’s homer was of the leadoff variety- the offense went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth. Peña came to bat with two outs, but wasn’t able to pull St. Lucie’s fat out of the fire, striking out swinging to end things on a sinker up and away that he got jumpy and committed to go after.
