The high-level recruiting of head coach Vic Schaefer and the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball program continued on Thursday with a major commitment from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy post Jayla Forbes.
The 6’7 Alabama product is the first pledge for the Longhorns in the 2027 recruiting class and is ranked as the No. 13 player overall and the No. 2 post in the ESPN rankings.

“The opportunity to compete in one of the best conferences in college basketball and challenge myself against the highest level of competition is something that I know I wanted early in my process,” Forbes told ESPN.
“Coach [Vic] Schaefer has a proven blueprint for developing post players and helping them reach their full potential, and that’s something I want to be a part of. His belief in me, along with the culture of excellence and accountability within the program, is what pushed me to make my decision.”
In addition to competing at a high level of high school basketball at Montverde Academy in Florida before heading to IMG this fall, Forbes also has international experience after helping the USA Women’s U18 National Team to the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup, averaging 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds over five games.
