Notre Dame takes two gigantic steps toward landing a priority recruiting target from their own backyard

Notre Dame football has a chance to seal the deal with a dynamic local star. The Fighting Irish took a couple of massive steps toward doing so.

With the recruiting momentum that Notre Dame has been riding over the last several weeks, it is hard not to get excited about the class that head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish could end up putting together in 2027. That has included several commitments this offseason, and more are on the horizon.

One talented linebacker to keep a close eye on is 2027 Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel linebacker Roman Igwebuike. He is a local talent with a ton of upside and all the potential in the world. After failing to make an impact in this recruitment early on, Notre Dame has done a tremendous job recently, especially with Igwebuike’s most recent visit. Some now view them as his favorite heading down the stretch.

The Irish staff received two massive pieces of news this week, which include Igwebuike having Notre Dame in his top-five schools list. They were joined by Tennessee, Clemson, Indiana, and Missouri in that top group. Igwebuike will also be committing on July 11, meaning there is now a light at the end of the tunnel.
