Ohio State football lands five-star QB Christopher Vargas

by

The Ohio State Buckeyes have consistently had elite quarterback play under head coach Ryan Day, and they may have just landed their next star. 2028 five-star quarterback Christopher Vargas committed to the Buckeyes on Saturday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Vargas is the No. 2 quarterback in the country and picked Ohio State over the Oregon Ducks and Virginia Tech Hokies. The Lawrence, Massachusetts native had scholarship offers from programs across the country, but the Buckeyes were able to close after hosting him on several visits.

He is ranked as the No. 7 overall player and No. 2 quarterback in the Rivals industry ranking. He is also the No. 1 player from Massachusetts.

Vargas is already Ohio State’s second five-star commitment in the 2028 cycle, joining five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison. All four of their commits are ranked among the 100 best players in the country, giving them the clear-cut No. 1 class in the country.

At 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds, Vargas has an ideal frame with plenty of room to fill out as he prepares for his junior season at St. John’s Preparatory School. While he missed three games as a sophomore, he completed 75% of his passes for 1,857 yards and 24 touchdowns to just two interceptions.
