Auburn basketball begins Greece trip with a win over KK Mega SuperBet

Auburn men’s basketball kicked off its overseas trip to Greece with a 92-71 win over KK Mega SuperBet on Saturday. The two teams will rematch on Sunday.  

Auburn was led in scoring by returning shooting guard Kevin Overton, as he was named player of the game by scoring 21 points. Overton also tallied two steals and three assists. He was 8-of-14 from the field and connected on half of his three-point attempts. He continued the stellar play that led the Tigers to the 2026 NIT Championship in April.

His backcourt partner, Tahaad Pettiford, scored 12 points in the game and added nine assists.  

This game was played in a four-quarter format and not the two-half format that college basketball fans are used to. Auburn opened the game by winning the first quarter 27-19 and held a 48-34 halftime advantage before controlling the third quarter, 32-22. KK Mega SuperBet narrowly won the fourth quarter 15-12.

How about the new guys? Troy transfer forward Thomas Dowd finished the game with a double-double, scoring 13 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. He showed his range by knocking down a three-point shot in the first half. Freshman Caleb Williams finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. South Alabama transfer Adam Olsen and returning piece Blake Muschalek both scored 12 points.  

Auburn won the rebounding battle 37-26 and shot 48% from the floor. They were also 10-of-18 from the free-throw line. They committed 15 turnovers in the game, but that is to be expected with it being the first time this team has played together against another team.

For KK Mega SuperBet, they were led in scoring by Backo Pavle with 22 points. They were held to just 44% from the field on 27-of-61 shooting.  

Four players were unavailable in the game: Narcisse Ngoy (eligibility), Mantas Rubštavičius (eligibility), Vanderbilt transfer George Kimble III (hand), and Creighton transfer Owen Freeman (foot), but Auburn expects both to play this upcoming season.

The Tigers’ starting lineup featured Pettiford, Overton, Wilson, Dowd, and Bukky Oboye in the victory.
