The Pistons continue to explore ways to improve their roster around Cade Cunningham and have reportedly identified Norman Powell as one of their offseason targets.
Detroit is expected to prioritize additional shooting and playmaking after those needs became increasingly apparent during its playoff run.
Along with Powell, the Pistons are monitoring other potential free-agent options, including Coby White and Austin Reaves, though Reaves is widely expected to remain with the Lakers.
The front office is also evaluating the trade market, with reported interest in Tyler Herro, Isaiah Joe, Trey Murphy III, and Kyrie Irving.
Powell’s situation is particularly noteworthy after the Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Miami would like to retain the veteran guard, but doing so could be more complicated because the team is hard-capped at the first apron and has less financial flexibility.
The 33-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 58 games while earning his first All-Star selection.
Detroit’s offseason plans also include several important internal decisions.
The Pistons must address Jalen Duren’s restricted free agency, Tobias Harris’ unrestricted free agency, and a potential rookie-scale extension for Ausar Thompson as they continue building around their young core.
