Toronto’s front office is moving toward continuity after a postseason that ended one win short of the Eastern Conference semifinals. According to Michael Grange on Sportsnet, the expectation is that both general manager Bobby Webster and head coach Darko Rajakovic will receive contract extensions in the coming weeks.
Grange reported that both Webster and Rajakovic have one year remaining on their current deals, but internal sentiment leans toward avoiding uncertainty heading into the final season. One league source said, “You don’t have your head coach and general manager head into the final year of their contracts as lame ducks, not after a playoff year.”
The Raptors’ season ended in a seven-game first-round series loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a matchup defined by small margins. Toronto was eliminated after a 114–102 defeat in Game 7 on May 3, following a sequence where each team protected home court until Cleveland closed the series.
Another well-placed source framed the timing of any extension around internal process rather than urgency, stating, “It will happen when it happens,” referring specifically to Webster, “but it will happen.”
Toronto’s roster production supports the case for stability. Scottie Barnes posted 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, while Brandon Ingram led the team with 21.5 points per night across 77 games. RJ Barrett added 19.3 points per game, giving the team three primary scoring options with overlapping offensive roles.
Rajakovic’s system showed clear defensive improvement during the postseason run, particularly in the middle games of the series, including a 126–104 win in Game 3. Still, the Cavaliers’ ability to generate late-game execution tilted the series back.
