Real Madrid has signed guard Max Shulga to a two-year contract that runs through the end of the 2027-28 season, the club announced Friday. Shulga joins the Spanish powerhouse after spending the 2025-26 season with the Boston Celtics and their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
The 24-year-old shooting guard was selected No. 57 overall by Boston in the 2025 NBA Draft after playing at Utah State and VCU. He appeared in 11 NBA games for the Celtics last season, averaging 0.6 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.2 assists in 3.3 minutes per game while shooting 25% from the field and 25% from three-point range.
Shulga’s more substantial production came with Maine, where he became one of the team’s primary creators. Across 39 G League games, he averaged 15.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists while shooting 41.9% from the field and 37.2% from three-point range.
Boston converted Shulga’s two-way contract to a standard NBA deal on March 15. At that point, he was averaging 15.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.6 steals in 36 G League games, with 29 double-digit scoring performances and 10 games with at least 20 points.
Real Madrid is adding Shulga to a roster that has undergone significant changes following a 24-14 EuroLeague regular season and a run to the 2026 championship game. Madrid finished third in the regular-season standings, then defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1 in the playoffs before beating Valencia 105-90 in the semifinals. Olympiacos ultimately defeated Madrid 92-85 in the final.
The club has parted ways with Trey Lyles, Alex Len, David Kramer and Mario Hezonja while replacing head coach Sergio Scariolo with Pedro Martinez.
