The Houston Rockets have waived guard JD Davison, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. The move comes after Davison spent the 2025-26 season with Houston, appearing in 28 regular-season games as a reserve while providing depth behind the team’s primary ball handlers.

Davison, 23, averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 7.8 minutes per game last season. He shot 37.5% from the field, 25.0% from three-point range and 68.4% from the free-throw line across his limited opportunities.

Originally selected by the Boston Celtics with the 53rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Davison spent three seasons in Boston before joining the Rockets. Across his four NBA seasons, he has appeared in 64 games, averaging 2.1 points, 1.1 assists and 1.0 rebounds while shooting 38.0% from the field.

Houston’s decision continues its offseason roster reshaping as the franchise prepares for the 2026-27 campaign. The Rockets are expected to welcome back veteran point guard Fred VanVleet after he missed the entire 2025-26 season recovering from a torn ACL. VanVleet exercised his $25 million player option earlier this summer, strengthening a backcourt that already includes Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard.

The Rockets finished 52-30 last season, good for fifth place in the Western Conference, before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games during the first round of the playoffs. Despite the early postseason exit, Houston remained one of the conference’s top teams behind a veteran-led core.

Kevin Durant led the Rockets with 26.0 points per game while earning All-NBA Second Team honors. Alperen Sengun added 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists per contest, earning his first All-Star selection, while Amen Thompson continued his emergence with 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists and finished eighth in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
