If 2025-26 was it for MJ Collins, the 6-foot-4 guard would have gone out strong. He averaged over 17 points per game for a Utah State team that won a game in the NCAA tournament. However, it may not have been Collins’ college basketball swan song.
USA TODAY’s Cincinnati Enquirer reports that a Hamilton County judge issued a ruling that allows Collins and many other Division I college athletes an additional year of eligibility.

With one more year of college basketball in his future, Collins has committed to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats. It’s not hard to connect the dots, as new Cincinnati head coach Jerrod Calhoun was Collins’ coach last season at Utah State.
It’s worth noting that the ruling is subject to appeal, which could change the lay of the land for Collins and the Bearcats before the season begins.
Collins spent the first two years of his college basketball career at Virginia Tech before transferring to Vanderbilt as a junior and to Utah State as a senior.
