Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors have reportedly finalized a new two-year agreement that will keep Kerr as the franchise’s head coach for the foreseeable future.
Kerr’s previous contract had been approaching its expiration, but the new extension ensures he will remain on the sidelines for his 13th and 14th seasons with Golden State.
The deal is also expected to make him the highest-paid head coach in the NBA.
Kerr originally took over the Warriors before the 2015-16 season and immediately transformed the franchise into a championship contender.
In his debut year as head coach, he guided Golden State to a 67-15 regular season record and an NBA championship.
That success marked the beginning of five consecutive Finals appearances, with the Warriors capturing additional titles in 2017 and 2018.
The veteran coach later helped lead the organization back to another championship in 2022, although the team has missed the playoffs in two of the last four seasons since then.
The extension also lines Kerr’s future up slightly beyond the current contracts of franchise veterans Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
Reports suggest Curry and Green are both expected to eventually sign new deals to continue their long careers in Golden State.
