Caitlin Clark shook off a scoreless first quarter to lead the Indiana Fever to an 86-77 home win against the Phoenix Mercury on Monday. Despite her unproductive start, she finished with a game-high 24 points, 3 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Per Real App, the two-time All-Star etched her name into the WNBA history books by becoming the first player to record six straight games with 20-plus points and 5-plus assists. Clark’s impressive play and record-setting performance sparked strong reactions from the WNBA world.

Before setting a new mark on Monday, Clark shared the record with three other players who had five consecutive games with at least 20 points and 5 assists. The Fever superstar previously did it three times, with those stretches tying Kelsey Plum (2025), Arike Ogunbowale (2019), and Cappie Pondexter (2009).
The first quarter against the Mercury did not go well for the Indiana floor general. She went 0-for-2, with both shots coming from 27 feet or longer, and committed a turnover.
Fever coach Stephanie White pulled her out with 3:34 left and kept her off the floor until the start of the second period. Clark’s disappointing start was part of the reason Indiana trailed 19-6 to open the contest.

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year turned the game around in the next three quarters to lead the Fever’s come-from-behind win, earning her high praise from the WNBA community.
“THE MVP IS HERS,” BronMuse posted.
“Caitlin has 24 in 28 mins, shot almost 50%, only had 3 turnovers, and had the 2nd highest +/- on the team… I wonder what reason her haters will have for how she wasn’t the best Fever player in today’s game,” an X user wrote.
“Those critiques that Caitlin Clark hasn’t gotten better were dead wrong. Her bag has expanded a lot. More moves in midrange, expanded layup, and floater package. Moving more without the ball,” Fever reporter Robin Lundberg remarked.
Former NFL player Geoff Schwartz also highlighted improvements in Clark’s game.

“If Clark could cut down on 1-2 turnovers a game … Her offense has taken off in the last few weeks. Way more variety of scoring. Midrange game has gotten better. Best passer in the game. Defense is what it is. It’s not great at times, and teams absolutely hunt her for success … but better than given credit for,” Schwartz wrote.
Clark’s superb showing was a much-needed boost for a Fever team that recently suffered back-to-back losses to Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream. Indiana improved to 10-7 after beating the Mercury and moved to within 2.5 games of the Dream (12-4) for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
