Virginia Tech head basketball coach Mike Young continues to quietly build his roster for 2026-27. Once Young lined up the returns of Ben Hammond, Amani Hansberry and Tyler Johnson, the focus turned to filling out the rest of the roster. And there seemed to be an emphasis on defense.
On Friday, the Hokies landed their latest player from the transfer portal, as N.C. State center/forward Musa Sagnia revealed his commitment to the Hokies.

The 6-foot-10, 235-pound Sagnia is a native of Gambia and has three years of eligibility remaining. He appeared in 34 games for the Wolfpack last season, averaging 2.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Sagnia gives the Hokies an athletic big, allowing Hansberry to continue in his more traditional role at the 4 (power forward).
Sagnia is the second big man the Hokies have added via the portal, following Miles Heide (San Diego State). Overall, Sagnia is the sixth player to commit via the transfer portal.

Sagnia’s length stands out. He’s also extremely athletic, just not to the level of Tobi Lawal. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he was strong on the defensive end in his first year of college basketball last season. The combination of Heide and Sagnia will replace departed freshmen Christian Gurdak and Antonio Dorn in Virginia Tech’s rotation next season.

Overall, another solid addition for Young, as Sagnia has untapped upside.
