When debating the best players to ever start and finish their careers in Kyle Field, several names immediately come to mind, especially for younger generations who view Texas A&M football through a different lens. For many, Heisman-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel is one of the most popular names that many believe belong atop the list of the best players to ever don Maroon & White, especially when discussing his ongoing impact.
During his two starting seasons in College Station, Manziel threw for 7,820 yards, 63 touchdowns, and rushed for 2,169 yards and 30 scores, numbers that will likely not be matched for a very long time in College Station. However, two of the program’s best defenders, who are also future NFL Hall of Famers, Von Miller and Myles Garrett, should also be considered atop the list of the program’s top players.

During Manziel’s two memorable seasons, his No. 1 wide receiver, Mike Evans, a former three-star recruiting prospect, quickly turned into one of the top playmakers in the country, reeling in 151 receptions for 2,499 yards and 17 touchdowns, including 1,394 yards and 12 scores during his redshirt sophomore season. A first-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, Evans’ first 11 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers include a Super Bowl victory, setting, or tying five NFL records, and 11 franchise records.
Lastly, former star linebacker Dat Nguyen, who was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017, starred as the Aggies’ undersized, but physically imposing starting linebacker from 1995-1995, finishing his illustrious career with 51 consecutive starts, 517 career tackles, and a 10.7 tackles-per-game average, while his 517 tackles still stand as a Texas A&M record.
Returning to College Station as Texas A&M’s inside linebackers coach from 2010 to 2011 under former head coach Mike Sherman, Nguyen was instrumental in developing Von Miller, who won the Butkus Award during the 2010 campaign after recording 10.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss.
So, who deserves to be the four faces of Texas A&M Football’s Mount Rushmore? According to Kalshi, Johnny Manziel, Mike Evans, Von Miller, and Dat Nguyen made the cut.
