Zalgiris Kaunas is reportedly close to signing Azuolas Tubelis to a new long-term contract that would keep the rising EuroLeague forward with the club through at least 2028, according to BasketNews.
The proposed three-year agreement would also include NBA exit clauses during future summers.
Tubelis, who attracted significant interest from several EuroLeague powerhouses this offseason, is expected to receive a record-setting deal that would make him the highest-paid player in Zalgiris history.
Multiple clubs were reportedly willing to pay a €1 million buyout to bring him out of Kaunas this summer.
The Lithuanian forward enjoyed an impressive debut EuroLeague season, averaging 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 12.7 PIR per game while emerging as one of the competition’s top power forwards.
He was even better during the playoff series against Fenerbahce, averaging 17.2 points and 18.2 PIR.
Zalgiris is also continuing extension talks with Sylvain Francisco while monitoring the situation surrounding Jonas Valanciunas.
Meanwhile, Marius Grigonis and Marek Blazevic are both reportedly nearing agreements for next season.
