Karl-Anthony Towns has made it clear he hopes to stay with the New York Knicks for the long term, according to a source close to him.
“He so badly wants things to work here,” a source close to Towns told ESPN. “He wants to be a Knick for life.”
Towns has two years remaining on his contract, including $57.7 million in 2026-27 and a $61 million player option for 2027-28.
He had interest in signing an extension prior to the season, though he did not expect the Knicks to offer one.
League sources also indicate that New York previously held exclusive discussions with Milwaukee centered on Giannis Antetokounmpo, and those possibilities could resurface depending on how situations evolve.
Towns has played 11 seasons for the Timberwolves and Knicks. He has averaged 22.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 720 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 5 All-Star games, and has won the Rookie of the Year award.
