UConn women’s basketball 2027 target Eve Long commits to Notre Dame over Huskies, UCLA

by

The UConn women’s basketball team is still looking for its first commitment in the Class of 2027 after five-star forward Eve Long, the No. 5 recruit in the class, announced her commitment to rival Notre Dame on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3 forward took her official visit to Storrs during the first round of the NCAA Tournament and watched top-seeded UConn dominate 16-seed Texas– San Antonio 90-52. But she ultimately chose the Fighting Irish from a trio of finalists that also included the Huskies and reigning national champion UCLA.

Long, an Olathe, Kansas native, was named the 2026 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 32.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.4 blocks per game during her junior season at Olathe South High School. She was also an honorable mention Naismith All-American.

Long represented Team USA last summer in the U16 FIBA AmeriCup and was named to the tournament’s All-Star Five. She averaged 11.8 points, four rebounds and 1.3 steals over six games, helping lead the U.S. to its fifth consecutive gold medal in the event. She was also invited to attend trials for USA Basketball’s U17 World Cup team beginning this week.

Long is one of just two top-10 prospects already committed in the 2027 class, and UConn is still in the mix for several of the five-star players still on the board. Point guard Kaleena Smith, the No. 1 recruit in the class, visited Storrs in January, and No. 6 prospect Haylen Ayers was in attendance for UConn’s 96-66 rout of Tennessee on Feb. 1. The Huskies also have an offer out to forward Ivanna Wilson-Manyacka, ranked No. 2 in the class.
