Yesterday, CBS Sports college basketball insider John Rothstein reported that Syracuse men’s basketball will face UConn in an exhibition game this October.
The matchup is scheduled for October 13 at Mohegan Sun, approximately two weeks before the start of the regular season for both programs.

The announcement quickly generated excitement among fans, as it will provide Syracuse with an early opportunity to measure itself against one of the nation’s premier programs, and it is the first time the two teams are facing off since 2018.
It will also offer a first look at what both teams could resemble heading into the 2025-26 season, particularly given the significant roster turnover and changes each program has undergone since last year.
There is, however, one notable caveat. Despite featuring two high-profile programs, the game will not count toward either team’s regular-season record.
Rather than meeting in a contest with NCAA Tournament implications or résumé-building significance, Syracuse and UConn will square off in an exhibition setting designed primarily for preparation and evaluation.

Even so, the matchup should carry plenty of intrigue. Facing elite competition before the season begins will give both coaching staffs a valuable opportunity to experiment with rotations and identify lineup combinations against a quality opponent.
While many fans would undoubtedly prefer to see the Orange and Huskies meet in a game that counts, this exhibition still promises to be one of the most compelling preseason matchups of the college basketball calendar.
