Robert Whittaker takes umbrage with Joe Rogan criticizing UFC 329 physique

Robert Whittaker wasn’t thrilled by the UFC 329 commentary from Joe Rogan.

Whittaker (27-9 MMA, 18-7 UFC) made good on his light heavyweight debut when he finished Nikita Krylov (31-12 MMA, 12-10 UFC) by third-round TKO in Saturday’s featured prelim at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He revealed that he weighed about 230 pounds when he made the walk to the octagon.

Joe Rogan said Whittaker looked different and softer in his new weight class, while Paulo Costa looked more like a real 205 pounder in his move back up against Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 327.

“Are we going to talk about the elephant in the room? The commentary calling me fat,” Whittaker said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “Talking about my weight. Do I look that out of shape? I had abs the day before. I just had some salt bloat going on. I don’t know.”

Whittaker did appear to be breathing a little heavy midway through Round 1, but the former UFC middleweight champion explained why.

“I started a bit hard. I think I got to work into the warmup,” Whittaker continued. “I think the nerves made things go different in the first round because I found my rhythm as the fight progressed.”
