UWF men’s and women’s basketball teams now have their first Division I conference schedule.
The Atlantic Sun released its 2026-27 schedule on Thursday, which will be both Argos squads’ inaugural season in Division I. Both teams will have seven home games inside UWF Field House as well as seven road games.

Both teams will also be able to participate in the ASUN conference tournament, but won’t be eligible to play in the NCAA Tournament if they win. As part of their transition to Division I, UWF athletics can compete for conference championships but not NCAA championships for the next three seasons. The men’s conference tournament will run March 4-7 in Fort Myers, while the women’s conference tournament will run March 4-8 in Jacksonville.
UWF men’s basketball are coming off their best season in nearly a decade, as they went 25-9 and won the Gulf South Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018. The school released head coach Justin Mann from his contract following the season and hired Appalachian State associate head coach Tanner Smith to lead the program into its new era.
“The first Division I schedule is always memorable,” Smith said in a press release. “We are excited to compete in such a competitive conference and continue to spread the University of West Florida brand across the ASUN footprint.”
UWF women’s basketball finished 18-12 last season, losing in the first round of the GSC tournament.

“Our schedule gives us a wide variety of teams to compete with during our first season in Division I,” head coach Stephanie Yelton said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to compete in the ASUN to build rivalries and compete in some unique destinations.”
