VJ Edgecombe couldn’t hide his excitement after LeBron James chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency.

The 21-year-old guard had an opportunity to FaceTime James after the four-time NBA champion agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with Philadelphia.

Edgecombe recalled trying to remain composed while speaking with a player he grew up watching.

“I FaceTimed Bron. I was in disbelief, but I had to act cool. I had to act like I’d been there before. I’m on the phone all cool and stuff. My headphones on, I’m playing the game. Had to act all cool, but it’s really Bron. I was really geekin’ I ain’t gone lie,” Edgecombe said.

The moment carried additional significance because Edgecombe was born in 2005, two years after James entered the NBA in 2003.

More than two decades later, the two are now teammates in Philadelphia.

James joins a loaded Sixers roster featuring Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey, along with the promising Edgecombe.

Philadelphia enters the upcoming season with championship expectations following its major offseason additions.

James’ arrival may reduce Edgecombe’s offensive responsibilities, but it also gives the young guard an opportunity to continue his development alongside some of the NBA’s most accomplished stars.
