Sabrina Ionescu makes statement on Caitlin Clark after Indiana Fever defeat New York Liberty

Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark went head-to-head in the WNBA, as the Indiana Fever played against the New York Liberty.

The Indiana Fever dominated the New York Liberty in a thrilling 106–92 victory. Indiana gained control early with their perimeter shooting, commanding a comfortable 64–46 lead by halftime. And despite the Liberty mounting a brief third-quarter run, Indiana quickly responded to pull away.

Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with a scorching 28 points, dropping 20 of them in the first half. Caitlin Clark delivered a stellar double-double performance with 22 points and 10 assists, while Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu were the standout performers for New York, scoring 19 points apiece.

But all eyes were on Clark as she broke even more records, passing Alyssa Thomas as the WNBA’s assist leader with last night’s performance.

Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark have a close bond, and that was there for all to see both in their embrace on the court and in the former’s comments after the WNBA game.

She pointed out Clark’s shooting, but it was her ability to get downhill and make the right reads that really stood out to the New York Liberty star:

“They’re a good shooting team. Their bigs are a handful. We have to go and help in the paint, which allows kickouts. They have elite guards that are able to get into the paint and kick and spray.

*”And Caitlin [Clark] being the head of that with 10 assists. Obviously, her shooting ability, but also her ability to get downhill and make the right reads. *

“If they don’t make all those shots, is it a different ball game? Who knows? I think it’s just one of those games where the ball went in for them and it didn’t for us.”
