Cal Lands Big 2027 Verbal From U.S. Senior National Team Member Colin Jacobs

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkley has scored a big verbal commitment for Fall 2027 from Bradenton, Florida native Colin Jacobs, one of the top recruits in his class. Jacobs is a distance swimmer who is on the U.S. National Team.

He will join Prakhanthi “Thi” Rai on the West Coast as a member of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2031.

Jacobs previously trained with Sarasota Sharks in Florida, but he now trains in France with CN d’Antibe under coach Fred Vergnoux. A multi-tine Winter Junior National Champion, Jacobs won the 1000 free and 1650 free this past December, also taking silver in the 500 free and 13th in the 400 IM. He earned bronze in the mile at Juniors East in 2024.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:37.99
  • 500 free – 4:17.51
  • 1000 free – 8:48.22
  • 1650 free – 14:47.47
  • 400 IM – 3:52.26

Jacobs also excels in open water. He earned bronze at the 2026 Open Water National Championships earlier this month as the top 18-and-under to punch his ticket to the 2026 World Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming Championships in Argentina. Jacobs also placed sixth in the 5k at Open Water Nationals.

The distance ace is also a USA Swimming and NISCA Scholastic All-American.

The Golden Bears recently won their second Atlantic Coast Conference championship in as many years since joining the conference, edging out rival Stanford for the win. Cal then finished seventh at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Jacobs’ top time in the mile would’ve finished fifth at ACCs and tied for 16th at NCAAs this past season. His fastest 500 free time would’ve qualified for the B-final at the conference meet.
