The Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks meet Sunday at Madison Square Garden with both teams carrying meaningful injury concerns into the final stretch of the regular season. New York enters at 53-28 and sits third in the Eastern Conference, while Charlotte is 43-38 and holding the ninth spot in the East.
The Knicks’ report is the bigger headline because of the names involved. Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Tyler Kolek are all out, stripping New York of its top scoring guard, key wing defense, interior size, and another playmaking option.
That injury list changes the shape of the game immediately. Brunson leads the Knicks with 26.0 points and 6.8 assists per game, while Towns adds 20.1 points and 11.9 rebounds, so New York will have to replace a huge share of its usage and rebounding with a thinner rotation.
Charlotte’s report is shorter, but it still matters. Tosan Evbuomwan, PJ Hall, and Antonio Reeves are out, while Coby White is probable with right calf soreness.
White’s status looms large because he has been one of Charlotte’s most reliable perimeter scorers, averaging 15.5 points and 3.1 assists.
Charlotte will also lean on its core scorers to attack a Knicks lineup missing several defensive anchors. Kon Knueppel is averaging 18.6 points, Brandon Miller 20.2, LaMelo Ball 20.1 with 7.2 assists, and Miles Bridges 17.2, giving the Hornets multiple ways to pressure a depleted New York backcourt and front line.
The matchup also carries some recent history. New York has won two of the three meetings this season, including a 129-101 win on Nov. 26 and a 119-104 victory on Dec. 3, while Charlotte answered with a 114-103 home win on March 26.
Form has gone the Knicks’ way, too, with New York beating Toronto 112-95 in its most recent game. Charlotte has dropped two straight, falling to Detroit and Boston, which makes the Hornets’ margin for error even smaller if White is limited.
