The Notre Dame women’s basketball team added another major piece to it’s future on Wednesday.
Five-star forward Eve Long announced her commitment to the Fighting Irish, giving coach Niele Ivey a marquee cornerstone to build on her 2027 class. Being one of the most coveted front court prospects in the country, Long chose Notre Dame over other prominent basketball programs UCLA and UConn.

Long is a 6-foot-3 standout from Olathe South High School in Kansas. She was named the 2025-26 Gatorade Kansas Girls Basketball Player of the year after averaging 32.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.4 blocks which shows how impactful her all-around game was at that level.
At the college level, she projects to be a versatile piece capable of helping at both ends of the floor. Evaluators noted her rebounding instincts, ability to handle the ball in the halfcourt, and a developing perimeter game. All those traits should translate well into the style of play she will see in South Bend.
For head coach Niele Ivey, the commitment continues incredible momentum that she’s built with recruiting and her program. While Notre Dame this upcoming season will be anchored by one of the best players in the sport in Hannah Hidalgo, their superstar will be supplemented with an extremely impressive freshmen class that finished being rated No. 4 overall in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
For the Irish, getting a commitment from Long against two other blue-blood programs signals that the Fighting Irish remain a force both on the hardwood and on the recruiting trail.
