Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese brought some extra intensity to Wednesday night’s matchup between the Dallas Wings and Atlanta Dream.

Two of the WNBA’s biggest young stars found themselves matched up during the first half at College Park Center, and neither was willing to back down. Bueckers attempted to drive past Reese before the Dream forward used her strength to cut off the lane.
That led to a physical back-and-forth battle as Bueckers continued trying to create space. The Wings guard eventually lost control of the ball, but the whistle had already blown for a foul on Reese.
The sequence quickly drew attention on social media.

Bueckers and Reese are friendly away from the court, but there was no room for pleasantries once the ball went up Wednesday. Their entertaining individual battle added another layer to an important game between two teams near the top of the WNBA standings.

The matchup came just days after Bueckers and Reese spent time together during WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago. They even discussed making a friendly wager on Wednesday’s game, although Bueckers jokingly appeared to forget about it when asked before tipoff.
Once the game started, however, both players quickly shifted back into competitive mode. Dallas entered Wednesday with an 18-9 record and sat fourth in the Western Conference. Atlanta arrived at 16-10 while riding a three-game winning streak and holding second place in the Eastern Conference.

The Wings also had revenge on their minds. Atlanta won each of the first two meetings between the teams this season, including a 77-72 victory at College Park Center on May 12. Reese dominated the glass in that game, finishing with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Bueckers scored 15 points for Dallas, but the Wings shot just 4-of-26 from beyond the arc.
The second meeting was far less competitive, with Atlanta earning an 86-69 home victory on May 22. Dallas appeared determined to change the script in the third meeting. The Wings took a 38-32 advantage into halftime after outscoring the Dream 22-16 during the second quarter.

Bueckers and Reese remain two of WNBA’s biggest attractions
Bueckers entered Wednesday averaging 20.9 points per game, the sixth-best mark in the WNBA. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2025, the former UConn star has quickly developed into the centerpiece of a Dallas team that has emerged as a legitimate contender. Reese has enjoyed an impressive first season with Atlanta after being traded by the Chicago Sky in April. Her rebounding, physicality and improving offensive game have helped the Dream climb near the top of the Eastern Conference.

The two stars took very different paths to the WNBA, but both have become must-watch players capable of producing viral moments whenever they share the court. Wednesday’s physical exchange was the latest example. Bueckers and Reese might be friends before and after the game, but their battle made one thing perfectly clear: Neither one plans to give the other an inch between the lines.
