Texas A&M’s spring football season will officially kick off on Friday, as coach Mike Elko enters his third season at the helm with equally high expectations from the fan base to make it back to the College Football Playoff, which will take 9, 10, or 11 wins. However, the 2026 schedule is tough, featuring road tests against LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma.
For the Aggies to have a shot at matching last season’s success, a healthy roster, especially in depth, is critical once SEC play begins. After landing 17 players from the transfer portal, combined with 26 incoming freshmen from the 2026 signing class, Elko and his revamped coaching staff, now featuring Holmon Wiggins as the program’s new offensive coordinator and Lyle Hemphill as the defensive coordinator, have their work cut out for them.

On Tuesday, Mike Elko, along with Holmon Wiggins and Lyle Hemphill, spoke to the media for the first time this spring, previewing the roster as a whole, while the third-year head coach provided a key injury update regarding several players who missed the entire 2025 season, combined with two new names who will not be available this spring, or possible in the fall.
As we reported this week, former five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles is set to return this spring, but in a limited fashion, while tight end Micah Riley, OL Papa Ahfua, cornerbacks Jamar Beal-Goines and Dezz Ricks, and safeties Dalton Brooks and Rashad “TomTom” Johnson, will also be available, but limited.
However, Elko confirmed that cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway and freshman defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler will not be available due to in-season injuries. Overall, this is good news regarding overall health, as S&C coach Tommy Moffitt deserves credit for his offseason training methods.
