The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade veteran wing Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks as part of a three-team deal that also involves the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN.
Under the agreement, Oklahoma City will receive three future second-round draft picks. The Hawks acquire Dort and guard Ryan Nembhard, while the Mavericks land former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher.
The move continues a busy offseason for the reigning NBA champions. Oklahoma City has now added seven second-round picks through various trades while significantly reducing its financial commitments.
According to ESPN, the Thunder have cleared approximately $224 million in salary and luxury tax obligations by moving Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins, leaving the franchise comfortably below the NBA’s second tax apron.
Instead of declining Dort’s $17.7 million team option to create immediate cap relief, the Thunder chose to exercise the option before completing the trade.
That decision allowed Oklahoma City to gain additional draft assets, generate a $17 million trade exception and give Dort an opportunity to pursue a long-term contract with Atlanta.
Such an extension would have been difficult for the Thunder to offer given their current salary structure, making the trade beneficial for both the organization and the 2025 championship contributor.
Oklahoma City has now acquired seven second-round picks this offseason, shed $224 million in payroll and tax and positioned themselves comfortably under the second apron via the trades of Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins.
