UFC 328’s official weigh-ins went about as smoothly as possible Friday morning in Newark, New Jersey — with the exception of one man. Lightweight veteran Jeremy Stephens tipped the scales at 160 pounds, missing the mark for his non-title bout against King Green by four pounds.
Fortunately, Saturday night’s headliners Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland did not share the same fate. Both men hit their target numbers, each weighing in at 185 pounds for their UFC middleweight championship bout. Chimaev makes the first defense his belt against former champ Strickland in this weekend’s five-round main event at the Prudential Center.
Joshua Van (125 pounds) and Tatsuro Taira (125) also made weight for their co-headlining fight for Van’s UFC flyweight championship. Van and Taira are set to make history as the first UFC title bout to ever feature two male Asian competitors.
